Portland officers help kids collect school supplies during 'Shop with a Cop' event

Posted: Updated:

School starts again soon, and some Portland police officers spent the day helping kids do some back to school shopping.

On Wednesday, 240 kids were able to take part in this year's Shop with a Cop at the Fred Meyer off Northeast 102nd Avenue.

$36,000 was donated to fund the program this year, and Fred Meyer also gave each student a backpack stuffed with school supplies.

Also on hand to help out all of the officers was Timber Joey.

"There kids need new clothes for school and they go away with the happy feeling of having nice stuff from Fred Meyer. What I really appreciate is seeing the smiles on everyone's faces, from the young people to the officers who participate," said Timber Joey.

This is the 14th year Portland police officers have had the Shop with a Cop event.
