PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police are investigating a shooting that left one woman injured in northeast Portland early Thursday.

Portland police responded to Northeast 80th Avenue and Northeast Glisan Street around 1:42 a.m.

Witnesses reported seeing two cars engaged in a fire fight. Police removed two cars from the scene that were heavily damaged.

One woman suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to a nearby hospital. She was among a large group of people at the scene.

Police said her injuries are serious, but do not appear to be life-threatening.

Preliminary information indicates that the shooting may have been connected to an earlier memorial gathering honoring the life of Ervaeua Herring, who was killed on Aug. 17, 2014. Four murder suspects have been indicted and arrested in that case.

Police believe the shooting is gang-related, but there is no specific suspect information.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to Detective Todd Teats at 503-823-2137, todd.teats@portlandoregon.gov.
