PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Record-breaking temperatures are expected to arrive Thursday and residents throughout Portland are preparing for the heat.

Highs are expected to reach in into the low 100s Thursday, Friday and Saturday, according to weather experts. An excessive heat warning is set to go into effect Thursday afternoon.

Officials advise Portlanders to take extra precautions in the hot weather. They advise drinking plenty of water and staying out of the sun as much as possible.

Various cooling stations have been set up around the Portland metro area, where people can go to have a chance to cool off.

Wearing loose, lightweight and light colored clothing can also be beneficial in the intense heat.

Officials would like to remind drivers that temperatures inside cars can become dangerously hot in a matter of minutes and to be careful not to leave children or pets inside cars.

Experts also have a few tips to help keep your house cool, including keeping doors, blinds and windows closed and using fans.

Temperatures are expected to cool down Sunday, where the highs are expected to be in the 80s.
