Firefighters are battling a large house fire in the West Hills area.

The fire started just after 5:45 a.m. at a large home at 13909 Germantown Road Thursday.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said the fire is a two-alarm fire. Firefighters arrived and said they didn't see any cars in the driveway. Later it was confirmed that no one was home.

Fire officials said the homeowner was returning home when he saw the flames and called 911.

Crews said they are having difficulty bringing water to the fire location and they are bringing water tenders to the site. Firefighters were forced to put down 2000 feet of hose from the water tender to even reach the house.

TVF&R said they are having a difficult time accessing the area.

The house is in a heavily wooded area.

Record-breaking heat and high winds are expected Thursday, which can hinder firefighting efforts.

There is no word on injuries.

According to, the house was for sale for just under $2 million.

Portland Fire & Rescue is assisting with the fire. Expect delays and road closures on Old Germantown Road, Germantown Road and Skyline Boulevard.

More information will be posted as soon as it is available.
