Apartment garages go up in flames in SE Portland

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A row of apartment garages caught fire early Friday morning, according to Portland firefighters.

Portland Fire & Rescue said they received a call about a small miscellaneous fire in the 2700 block of Southeast 138th Avenue around 1:38 a.m.

When they arrived, firefighters upgraded the blaze to an apartment fire.

PF&R said the fire was located in a row of five single car garages. The garages were part of a condo complex, but are detached.

Crews were able to knock out and clear the fire about an hour later.

Fire officials said they do not know what caused the fire, but they do not suspect anything suspicious.

Hot weather has created dangerous fire conditions over the past several days.

Crews worked to contain a massive house fire in the West Hills area Thursday. Another apartment went up in flames in North Portland Wednesday.

Multiple burn bans are in effect throughout the area.
