A 21-year-old pregnant woman shot and killed in her apartment in 2014 was hit by a "barrage of bullets" from at least six different guns, including one that is consistent with the caliber of an AK-47, according to court documents.

DeAnthony Simmons, 22, Demetruis Brown, 21, Geontae Jones, 22 and Kelani Brown, 24, have been charged with the Aug. 17, 2014 murder of Ervaeua Herring.

In a memorandum seeking to deny bail for the defendants, prosecutors argue the shooting stemmed from a fight in downtown Portland a few hours earlier between rival gangs the Woodlawn Park Bloods and Hoover Criminals.

A woman told detectives that following the fight, she drove several armed members of the Hoover gang to the home of a member of the Woodland Park Bloods but he wasn't home, according to court documents.

The group then went to an apartment complex near Southeast 151st Avenue and Powell Boulevard where Ervaeua Herring lived.

According to court documents, a woman told detectives three men with guns entered her apartment early in the morning looking for Herring's boyfriend. The woman told detectives it appeared four more men with guns were outside her apartment.

Court documents state Herring's boyfriend was known to police as a member of the Woodlawn Park Bloods.

The woman said she directed the gunmen to a neighboring apartment and the men left, taking her phone. Moments later, the woman said she heard gunfire.

When officers arrived, they found Herring dead in her apartment, just inside the sliding glass door in the rear of the unit.

According to court documents, evidence suggests Herring was shot through the glass door. Detectives found 26 shell casings outside the apartment, which an Oregon State Police crime lab analysis showed came from six different guns.

It appears Herring wasn't the intended target of the shooting, but prosecutors argue in court documents that the suspects intended to kill whoever they found at the apartment.

The four defendants arrested in connection with the shooting are each charged with two counts of felony murder and one count of intentional murder. All four have pleaded not guilty.

A pre-trial release hearing for the four defendants was scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday.

The state planned to ask the court to deny bail and keep the men in custody due to the nature of the charges.

The defendants are scheduled to go on trial in Sept. 2017.
