ALBANY, OR (KPTV) -

A three-alarm grass fire destroyed a barn and damaged a garage, but thankfully missed a house in Albany Friday afternoon.

Jefferson Fire District responded to the fire around 3:34 p.m. at 2232 Northeast Millersburg Drive.

When crews arrived, the fire was about a half an acre in size and was within a few feet of a barn and house.

High winds blowing towards the barn and house made it difficult for firefighters to fight the fire.

Jefferson Fire District said they were unable to save the barn but did save the house. The outside wall of the garage was damaged.

The fire moved around the house and down a field until firefighters were able to stop it.

A chicken coop was also near the fire that had two chickens in it. One chicken named Penelope was found and is doing well. The other chicken has not been found and they are trying to find it.

Jefferson Fire District said that it appears the fire started from a spark near the railroad tracks.

No injuries were reported.
