PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A hit-and-run driver who stole a car in southwest Portland was arrested after crashing on the I-84 on-ramp from the Morrison Bridge, according to police.

Police responded to reports of a disturbance involving someone possibly armed with a knife near Southwest Garden Home Road and Southwest Oleson Road at 11:28 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators said the suspect, 29-year-old Casey J. Graham, entered a vehicle in the area, but was confronted by someone inside. Graham then approached a woman and demanded the keys to her car before an employee at a nearby restaurant chased him away.

Graham made his way to an apartment complex and stole a running, unoccupied car, according to police.

Graham drove onto I-5 northbound and was involved in several hit-and-run crashes, according to police, before finally disabling the car on the I-84 ramp at the Morrison Bridge.

Police said Graham then attempted to carjack someone who had stopped at the scene. Officers arrived and confronted Graham, who attempted to get away before finally being taken into custody.

Graham was taken to Multnomah County Jail and charged with three counts each of robbery in the third degree, failure to perform the duties of a driver and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle. He was also charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, assault in the fourth degree and attempt to elude on foot.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Portland Police Bureau detectives at 503-823-0400.

Traffic on I-5 at eastbound I-84 was severely disrupted for hours after the incident.
