Coast Guard Petty Officer assists overboard boater near Newport

NEWPORT, OR (KPTV) -

A man was rescued by a Coast Guard crew member after he fell off a boat near Newport Saturday afternoon.

Coast Guard Sector North Bend watchstanders were notified by a Station Yaquina Bay crew member that a boat was 20 feet from the South Beach boat ramp with three people on board and one person was clinging to the side of the boat.

The Coast Guard crew were conducting dockside boarding when they heard cries for help from someone in the water.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Elijah Webb got into the water and helped bring the boat back to the pier.

Once at the pier, the station crew members and two Good Samaritans helped pull the man out of the water.

The man was assessed by the Coast Guard crew and then left in the care of family members.

No injuries were reported.
