PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A Portland police officer pleaded guilty to charges including DUII and reckless driving after crashing an undercover police car in the Happy Valley area in April.

Daniel Chastain, 43, also pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault in court Monday.

He was sentenced to 32 days in jail, 24 hours of community service and two years probation. He was also fined $2,300.

The crash occurred the afternoon of April 25 near the intersection of Southeast Big Timber Court and 172nd Avenue.

Witnesses said a black car was speeding when it collided with a pickup and rolled over.

Investigators learned the car was owned by the city of Portland. Chastain was off-duty at the time of the crash, but he was on-call, according to Portland police.

Chastain was placed under arrest and taken to the hospital to be evaluated. He was later cited and released without being booked into jail.

The Happy Valley police chief said at the time that Chastain did not receive any preferential treatment due to his status as a police officer. The crash was investigated thoroughly, the chief said.

Chastain is a 17-year veteran of the Portland Police Bureau and was assigned to the Tactical Operations Division. He was put on paid administrative leave after the crash. His current status with the bureau was not immediately available Monday.
