PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Newly signed Trail Blazers center Festus Ezeli will be out for six weeks after receiving an injection in his left knee.

The injection is bone marrow aspirate concentrate and Orthovisc, the team announced Monday. The procedure is intended to alleviate pain and improve function.

The injection was done by a doctor in Chicago.

Ezeli, 26, agreed to a free agent contract with the Blazers in July. He previously played for the Golden State Warriors and was a member of the 2015 NBA championship team.

Ezeli was sidelined for six weeks last season and played in only 46 games after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, according to ESPN.

The Trail Blazers regular season begins Oct. 25.
