DESCHUTES COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Edwin Lara, a college security officer accused of killing a 23-year-old Bend woman, is back in Oregon after previously being held in a California jail.

Deschutes County officials said Lara, 31, was booked into the Deschutes County Jail Wednesday morning.

Lara is accused of the murder of Kaylee Sawyer, whose body was found in late July after she had been missing for several days.

Court officials said Lara raped Sawyer before intentionally killing her to cover-up his crimes.

Police said before he was arrested, Lara committed a number of crimes including attempted murder of a man in Yreka and kidnapping both a woman in Salem and a family that he later carjacked in California.

Lara is set to appear in court Thursday.
