NEWPORT, OR (KPTV) -

A pet pig was found roaming Newport's Bayfront earlier this week and made a splash on social media. Now the pig is back home with his owner after his mini-adventure.

With a new nickname and his very own theme song, Newport police put out the word about Mr. Boombastic. Police soon learned the pig's real name is Mr. Chalk-O and he wasn't really lost.

"He was literally only four houses away from my house. He likes to go to these apple trees."

The pig's owner, Corrina Antonuccio, said someone spotted Chalk-O roaming one of his favorite spots and assumed he was missing.

By the time Corrina figured out he had been taken to an animal shelter, the shelter was closed for the night.

That meant a night in lock-up for the 9-month-old miniature pig who lives indoors and prefers to sleep in Corrina's or her kids' beds.

"That's his favorite thing to do is snuggle and sleep with someone. He will not sleep alone, so it was probably hard on him sleeping in jail one night."

When Corrina went to bail him out the next morning, she said he was clearly homesick.

"When I went to pick him up, he saw me and started crying like a child that wanted their parent. A cry I never heard and he wouldn't stop until I picked him up."

And if you're thinking about making a mini-pig part of your family, Corrina said don't be surprised to see the same kind of affection.

"They're really sensitive. When they bond with you, that's it. You just can't adopt a pig and change your mind, because it's like having a child and sending it back."

Corrina said the shelter did not charge her the usual fee because they don't even have a policy for pigs. She said she made a donation instead.

As for Mr. Chalk-O, no more free-roaming allowed, but Corrina said he is leash-trained.
