(KPTV) -

U.S. Highway 26 was blocked near the intersection with Highway 103 Thursday morning after a log truck crashed and rolled over.

Oregon State Police said around 8:47 a.m. a loaded log truck, driven by John Thomas Budge, 55, was traveling westbound on Hwy 26, just passing the Elderberry Inn Restaurant, when it struck the rear of a 2003 Ford F550 tow truck.

The log truck went off the highway, struck an embankment, overturned and lost the load of logs across the highway.

OSP said at the time of the crash, several Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division Troopers were just arriving at the Elderberry Inn Restaurant for a meeting. They quickly took control of the scene and supplied first aid to Budge.

The Troopers used their patrol vehicles to stabilize the truck and trailer until fire personnel arrived, as well as assisted with the extrication of Budge.

The driver of the tow truck, Fred Baltin Miller, 72, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Budge was taken to OHSU by Life Flight with serious injuries.

Highway 26 was closed for four and a half hours for the investigation.
