COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, OR (KPTV) -

A Texas firefighter who was lost while hiking in the Columbia River Gorge was found by another hiker and has been reunited with his friends.

Devin Paez, 26, was located around 3:15 p.m. on the Oneonta Trail below Triple Falls.

The other hiker that saw Paez said that he recognized him from the media coverage of the search.

He will be medically evaluated and debriefed on his experience once he gets to the Command Post.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said Paez was hiking with two other hikers near Wahkeena Falls Thursday.

The three hikers split up at Sherrard Point earlier that evening. Paez decided to head back down the trail and left his gear behind, according to officials.

Friends told deputies they came back down to the trailhead because he did not show up.

Multnomah County and Mountain Wave search and rescue teams have been searching the area since before 2 a.m. Friday.
