SWEET HOME, OR (KPTV) -

Deputies from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Sweet Home man Thursday after they said he confessed to severely injuring his 6-week-old son.

According to the sheriff’s office, 911 dispatchers received a call that the child was having difficulties moving and had suspicious injuries. Medics responded to the home and transported the infant to Sacred Heart Medical center RiverBend in Springfield.

Detectives and deputies also responded to the scene and began conducting interviews with family members and friends who were at the home.

Deputies said that during the interview with the boy’s father, Joseph James Thompson, 21, he confessed that he knowingly caused the injuries to his son, which included bruising and a broken rib.

Thompson was arrested on charges of first-degree assault and first-degree criminal mistreatment. He was taken to the Linn County Jail.

The infant was treated and released from Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Deputies said their investigation is ongoing.
