PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police arrested a 15-year-old suspected of car prowling after the teen assaulted an officer and had to be stopped with a stun gun.

Officers from the East Precinct responded to a report of a car prowler in the 1300 block of Southeast 135th Avenue just before 11 p.m.

When they arrived on the scene, officers were told a homeowner with a shotgun had confronted the car prowl suspect. The suspect attempted to flee as other neighbors approached but the neighbors ordered the suspect to the ground.

As the first officer at the scene approached the suspect, police said the teen charged at him, shoving the door to the police car into the officer’s face injuring him.

As the suspect walked away, the officer followed. The suspect turned around and began to advance on the officer again, at which point the officer used a stun gun multiple times to stop the teen.

Other officers arrived and the teen was taken into custody. Medical personnel responding to the scene noted that the teen showed signs of being under the influence of intoxicants.

The officer was taken to a Portland hospital by police where he was treated and released.

The teen was taken to the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home and faces charges of assaulting a public safety officer, resist arrest, menacing, interfering with a peace officer, disorderly conduct in the second degree, and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.
