PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Crews from Portland Fire & Rescue battled a 2-alarm apartment fire off of Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway that shut down traffic for a time Saturday morning.

When crews arrived they found the fire burning on the rear portion of the apartment, then found more fire burning in an attic shared by two of the units.

Firefighting efforts closed traffic on Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway between Southwest 45th Avenue and Southwest Shattuck Road for a brief time.

According to PF&R officials, there were no injuries from anyone living in the apartments, though one firefighter was treated for minor heat exhaustion.

Three of the four apartments were made untenable due to damage, displacing seven adults and one child. The Red Cross has responded to assist those displaced residents.

Fire officials said the fire was caused by an improperly discarded cigarette left on the back deck.
