Gang enforcement team investigating shooting in SE Portland

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police are investigating a possible gang-related shooting that took place in Southeast Portland early Monday.

Portland police responded to the incident around 3:11 a.m. at Southeast 136th Avenue and Powell Boulevard.

According to witnesses, a group of men standing outside the M&M Car Wash shot at another group of men inside a car at the Plaid Pantry next door. One witness said he heard at least 15 gunshots.

Witnesses said after the shooting they saw several African American men running back to two parked white sedans. They then sped out of the area.

The car that was shot at drove away before officers arrived,  but officers said they were able to catch up with the car on I-84 due to a flat tire.

No injuries have been reported, but the car sustained multiple bullet strikes.

Police said this is most likely an incident between two rival gangs. The Gang Enforcement Team is now investigating the situation.

Police said this is the 6th gang-related shooting to happen in less than 48 hours. So far in August, there have been 21 gang-related shootings in the Portland area.

At this point it is unclear if Monday's shooting is related to any of the other shootings over the past several days.
