ST. HELENS, OR (KPTV) -

A St. Helens woman said she had to put down two of her cats after someone attacked and mutilated them, and now she is on a mission to find out who is responsible.

Shannon Hunsinger let her three cats, Titan, Gojira and Jackyl, go outside late Thursday night.

“They’ve been strictly indoor for most of their lives and just this summer, I’ve been letting them have a little freedom, and they don’t wander,” she told FOX 12.

But on Friday, the three cats did not return. Hunsinger said she went out and found Jackyl, scared and hiding under a neighbor’s shed.

It wasn’t until 11 p.m. that Gojira showed up at the door, mangled, bleeding and barely hanging on to life. The next day, Titan came home in the same condition.

“It appears that somebody tried taking their heads off with a golf club or some blunt object,” Hunsinger said. “It was the most horrific thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life.”

Hunsinger said she had no choice but to put both of the cats down. She called the police and put the word out on social media, especially, she said, with so many children at these apartments.

“My cats are probably not the only ones,” she said. “And if they’re doing this to cats, who’s to say they’re not going to do this to people.”

Hunsinger doesn’t know if she is being targeted or this is a random act of violence, but she wants the culprit found.

“I will not rest until my boys have justice,” she said. “This person needs to be punished.”

St. Helens police officers said they’ve gotten several tips in this case but that none have led to any new information on a possible suspect.
