A Longview man is calling on a hit-and-run driver to turn himself in after hitting his 7-year-old son in a busy parking lot.

It happened around 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Michael Schmidt and his son Cameron were walking near Starbucks in the Triangle Shopping Center and Schmidt says three drivers waved at them to cross.

But then the fourth car, a dark gray Toyota Camry, just kept going.

The driver hit Cameron, knocking him to the ground. He suffered a damaged tooth, scrapes on his chin and bruises on his knees.

Schmidt says the driver did get out for a moment, but then he got back in his car and drove off.

Schmidt is relieved his son is okay, but he says the fact that the driver left the scene is wrong.

“He probably got really scared and, you know, I understand it. But I don’t really agree with it,” said Schmidt. "Everybody makes mistakes, you know. So just do the right thing.”

Officials say the driver is a white man in his 20s, about 5 feet 7 inches, with brown eyes, brown hair and facial hair. They think his license plates have the letters “ARG” on them.

If you have any leads in the case, call Longview Police.
