KEIZER, OR (KPTV) -

A 29-year-old man was arrested in Keizer after he led police on a seven hour manhunt on Monday.

Keizer Police Department said just after 8 a.m. they received a report of a suspicious person sleeping in a lawn in the 700 block of New Terrace Drive North.

Officers arrived to the area and identified the man as Michael Allen Schwindt. Officers learned he had a warrant for his arrest by the Marion County Circuit Court for 18 counts of identity theft.

Keizer PD said while officers were trying to arrest Schwindt, he fled on foot through the surrounding neighborhood.

Officers established a perimeter while a K9 team search the area, but Schwindt was not found and the search was called off at 9:45 a.m.

By mid-afternoon, Keizer PD said they received another call about a suspicious person in the same area and matched the description of Schwindt.

Officers set up another perimeter and a K9 team from the Salem Police Department responded but were unable to located Schwindt again.

Keizer PD said they knew Schwindt had a relative who lived in the 6800 block of River Road North. An officer stayed in the area to conduct surveillance on the home.

At 2:40 p.m. the relative of Schwindt returned home and officers made contact with her. Officers then searched her home and noticed several items in the home were disturbed and it appeared someone had accessed the attic crawl space.

Just before 3 p.m. officers found Schwindt hiding in the attic. Keizer PD said because the home is in a multi-dwelling housing complex, Schwindt had access to several other adjoining homes.

Schwindt was arrested and taken to the Marion County Correctional Facility. In addition to the warrant, Schwindt was charged with one count of burglary in the first degree, one count of escape in the third degree and one count of trespass in the first degree.

His bail is set at $200,000.
