LINCOLN CITY, OR (KPTV) -

Police are searching for a person of interest in a shooting that injured two people at a Lincoln City apartment complex.

The investigation began when officers responded to a hit-and-run report at 11:30 a.m. Friday on West Devils Lake Boulevard near Northeast 45th Street.

Police said a Honda Civic had been struck from behind by a gray Jeep Cherokee, with the driver of the Jeep taking off before officers arrived at the scene.

Officers learned a passenger in the Honda had been shot in the chest and was taken to the hospital in another vehicle after the crash.

The gunshot victim was eventually transferred to a Portland hospital as a trauma patient.

Police said the shooting occurred at the Beacon Crest apartments near the crash scene.

Officers then learned a second person injured in the shooting arrived at the hospital. That person was treated for a head wound and released.

Police have identified a person of interest in the case who they are trying to locate for questioning. Leonel Zamora Jr., 33, is described as a Hispanic man, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 160 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 541-994-3636.

A Chrysler 300 initially sought in connection with the investigation was located in McMinnville, according to police. No other details were released about the car or whether the hit-and-run was connected to the shooting.
