PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man is facing assault charges after he was arrested five times within four days.

Court documents state that 35-year-old Augustin Cruz assaulted a Veterans Affairs Police Captain Monday.

Court documents said VA police officers received a call around 9:45 a.m. that a man was “freaking people out” by the U.S. Veterans Hospital human resources building and breaking windows in a nearby parking garage.

Documents state that officers arrived in the parking garage to find Cruz sitting on top of a garbage can, blocking a glass sliding door that leads to the garage elevator.

After shouting commands at him, Cruz proceeded to yell at the VA officers, calling them “demons,” according to documents.

As officers approached him, Cruz grabbed a baseball sized rock, making officers believe he was going to throw it at them.

Officers were able to pin Cruz to the wall, but he continued to struggle, kicking and shouting, “Get away from me demons! I don’t want to die.”

Documents state that at one point Cruz kicked a VA Captain in the shin, leaving a two-inch gash.

Officers were able to restrain Cruz and he remains in custody.

Jail records show Cruz was arrested four other times between the dates of Aug. 26 to Aug. 28. He faces charges of assault of a federal employee and class A misdemeanor.
