PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland is once again leading the nation when it comes to rising home prices.

The brand new S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller home price index shows that home prices in the Northwest are growing at twice the national rate.

Portland sits on top of the list with a 12.6 percent increase in home prices in June compared to just a year earlier. Seattle is in second on the list with an 11 percent increase.

The closely watched national report released Tuesday shows that the two cities easily double the average rate seen for the nation's largest 20 metro areas, 5.1 percent.

June marks Portland's ninth straight month at the top of the list dating back to October 2016.

While it is becoming more expensive to buy a home in Portland, it is a good time to already be a homeowner.

A new survey from Bankrate.com ranked Portland as the best in the nation for homeowners, noting inexpensive homeowners insurance, few foreclosures and low energy costs as benefits for property owners.
