Investigators looking for witnesses of 1996 unsolved murder of 17-year-old

Fox 12's Most Wanted shot and killed a man 20 years ago, and police are asking for the public's help in solving this cold case.

Portland police said on August 31, 1996 at about 11:30 p.m., Alaijo Shaune Johnson was sitting on the front porch of a home at 3950 Northeast Garfield talking to his girlfriend. As they were talking, a man approached both Johnson and his girlfriend from behind.

According to police, Johnson and his girlfriend heard a noise behind them, the girlfriend looked and saw a man begin shooting.

Johnson was hit numerous times and died while being taken to the hospital.

Police said investigators were able to determine that Johnson was not a gang member but did have friends in both the Crips and Bloods.

Johnson would have been a senior at Jefferson High School in the fall of 1996.

Witnesses of the shooting told investigators that numerous people had been sitting on the porch of a vacant duplex across from the home on 3950 NE Garfield. Those witnesses scattered after the shooting and investigators were unable to find anyone who admitted that they had been at that location and had witnessed the shooting.

Police said a neighbor who heard the shots, looked out the window and saw an African-American man with light complexion, about 14 to 15 years old at the time of the shooting, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing dark clothing get on a black bicycle and quickly leave the area.
