Woodstock Farmers Market targeted by thieves twice this summer

Posted: Updated:

Thieves in southeast Portland haven’t made the summer easy for a community farmers market, stealing $3,500 worth of equipment.

Peggy McCafferty is the volunteer coordinator for the Woodstock Farmers Market. She says early Monday morning someone broke into their storage shed and made off with $2,000 worth of stuff.

“I really got sick about it," McCafferty said. "I burst into tears, I took this one really hard.”

She says the thieves stole eight canopy tents.

Earlier in the summer she says the shed was broken into as well and music gear, a hand truck, and a tent, totaling $1,500, were stolen.

“The fact that we got targeted, we are very much a community based organization, we are here for the community,” McCafferty said.

The farmers market is run by all volunteers and is one of only a few in the Portland area that offers live music every Saturday.

McCafferty says they’ve been working for the last few years to make the market very family and community oriented.

She says getting hit the second time has made things tough but they will continue to put on the market.

"You’re making it really hard for us to keep doing that, you stole from a small non profit, it’s very frustrating,” McCafferty said.

Anyone with information or who may have saw the break-in is asked to call Portland police.
