DESCHUTES COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A man from Portland was found dead by hikers along a South Sister trail Tuesday.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said 63-year-old Tom Shakespeare was found face down and unresponsive by hikers along the Devil’s Lake Trail around 11:08 a.m.

Deputies said the hikers immediately called 911 and began CPR, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Shakespeare was found about 4 and a half miles up from the trailhead. DCSO search and rescue volunteers were able to bring Shakespeare down from the mountain later that day.

Although Shakespeare’s death does not appear to be suspicious, deputies said they are still investigating the incident.

DCSO said they have contacted multiple hikers on the trail to see if they came in contact with Shakespeare or witnessed his death. If you have any information, please contact the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
