A driver died after crossing the centerline of a Salem street and hitting an oncoming medical transport van Friday morning.

Emergency crews responded to Cordon Road Southeast on the overpass of Highway 22 at 7:30 a.m.

Investigators said a 1994 Acura Integra driven by 31-year-old Anthony Joseph Neal of Salem was heading south when the car crossed into the wrong lane and hit a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan.

The van is used by AJ Medical Transportation and was being driven by 46-year-old Jennifer Craven of Salem.

Neal was pronounced dead at the scene. Craven was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

There were no patients in the van at the time.

The road was closed for hours while investigators were at the scene. The investigation is continuing, according to Salem police. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call investigators at 503-588-6123.
