VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

Two men had to be taken to the hospital after someone in another vehicle shot at their car in Vancouver Saturday morning.

Washington State Patrol troopers said a 1997 Honda Civic was headed east on State Road 500 when a vehicle of an unknown type that had been following closely moved into the left lane beside the Civic just after 2 a.m.

Troopers said a passenger of that vehicle opened fire with a 9mm handgun, firing approximately 10 shots.

At least eight shots hit the Civic, with one of the bullets hitting the left knee of the driver, a 29-year-old male from Vancouver, troopers said.

Investigators said another bullet grazed the back of the head of a 32-year-old male from Vancouver sitting in the front passenger seat.

The driver of the Civic pulled off to the side of the road to call 911 and the other vehicle drove away, continuing eastbound on SR 500.

Both men were taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for treatment. Investigators said their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Troopers said the suspects' car had not been located.

Part of eastbound SR 500 was closed for more than four hours while Washington State Patrol investigated the shooting.
