GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

A woman is in serious condition at a Gresham hospital Monday after she claims she was shot while playing Pokémon Go.

Gresham Police Department said they received a call around 2:20 a.m. that a woman had been shot and she was currently inside a house on Battaglia Avenue.

The woman left the house before police arrived. Officers tracked her down to a location a few blocks away.

Police said she had a gunshot wound in her torso and they were quickly able to get her into an ambulance.

According to GPD, the woman initially gave police a false name and told them she had been playing Pokémon Go in the area of Powell Boulevard and Highland Drive.

She said a car then drove up alongside her and someone inside shot her before driving away.

The victim told police that she ran to an acquaintance’s house to call 911 because she did not have her phone on her.

Police concluded that not having a cell phone on her ruled out the possibility that the victim was playing Pokémon Go at the time of the shooting.

Officers determined that she wasn’t who she was claiming to be and after confronting her with this information, the woman gave them her real name.

Police said the victim has an outstanding warrant for a parole violation for possession of meth.

Investigators believe the victim and the shooter know each other.

Gresham police are still investigating the situation.
