PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

An arson suspect is accused of starting multiple fires inside a 7-Eleven store in north Portland.

Firefighters and officers responded to the store on the 6800 block of North Fessenden Street at 7:20 a.m. Monday.

Investigators said 25-year-old Kevin Mitchell Jr. set several items on fire inside the store. Witnesses said the burned items included bags of charcoal.

Firefighters said people were inside the store at the time, but nobody was injured.

Mitchell was arrested on charges of first-degree arson and first-degree criminal mischief.

The gas station portion of the business remained open Monday, according to arson investigators, but the store was closed due to the amount of damage caused by the fires.

A total damage estimate was not immediately available.
