Winchester Bay, OR (KPTV) -

A man died and a woman was seriously injured in an ATV hit-and-run crash on the dunes in Winchester Bay.

Deputies responded to the dunes north of Banshee Hill at 11 p.m. Friday.

Witnesses reported that a man and woman riding on a Honda ATV were struck by a Polaris side-by-side ATV.

Three people were on the Polaris and they stopped briefly, according to deputies, before leaving the scene, abandoning the ATV and running away into a wooded area.

They were last seen near the county ATV shed on Salmon Harbor Drive. The suspects are described as two males and one female.

Deputies and a K-9 team were not able to locate the suspects.

Benjamin Wohl, 27, of Poulsbo, Washington, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was driving the ATV that was hit. His passenger, 30-year-old Breauna Ellison of Clackamas, was taken to the hospital with injuries described as serious.

"At the end of the day, two people who were wearing helmets and not doing anything wrong, and somebody plowed into him, put her in the hospital and unfortunately killed Ben," said Ellison's brother David Applegate.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Douglas County Sheriff's Office at 541-440-4471.

Friends and family have started GoFundMe accounts for the victims. Wohl's page is at this link and Ellison's page is at this link
