Pedestrian hit, killed by car in NE Salem

SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A person walking in the the road was hit and killed by a car in Salem Tuesday morning, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said the collision occurred near the intersection of Cordon Road Northeast and Carolina Avenue Northeast around 5:30 a.m.

Deputies said it appeared the pedestrian, an adult male, was walking in the middle of the road when he was hit by a driver heading north on his way to work.

The man was killed instantly, deputies said.

The driver of the car was not injured.

The pedestrian did not have any identification on him and may have been homeless, deputies said.

Deputies said Cordon Road was closed between Sunnyview Road Northeast and Carolina Avenue Northeast during the investigation. The roadway was reopened to traffic around 9 a.m.
