PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

More than 20 years after a man was shot and killed in a southeast Portland apartment, a suspect has pleaded guilty to murder.

Vinson White, 52, pleaded guilty Friday to charges of murder and conspiracy to commit robbery.

He is one of four people facing charges in connection to the shooting death of Darrin Ezell on Dec. 20, 1995 at his apartment on the 9300 block of Southeast Ramona Street.

Detectives said the men wore masks and kidnapped Ezell's girlfriend, used her keys to get into Ezell's apartment and then shot him while he slept.

The woman's two children, ages 3 and 7, were in the apartment at the time.

Investigators said Ezell was a low-level drug dealer known to have large amounts of cash. The robbers, however, are believed to have left the scene without finding any money.

The case went cold until 2014. One suspect was arrested in April 2014 and three men were indicted in December of that year after cold case detectives began working with Multnomah County prosecutors to focus on witnesses.

Detectives said potential suspects were identified two months after Ezell was killed, but witnesses would not provide statements necessary to charge them at that time.

The suspects are all documented gang associates, according to police.

Some witnesses came forward to testify in 2014, leading to the arrests.

Danny Conner is scheduled to appear in court in December. Adrian Stafford and Selwyn Stafford are scheduled to face trial in January 2017.

White will be sentenced on Sept. 23.
