PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A woman who picked up a car after a pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision in southeast Portland has been arrested, but the initial driver remains on the loose.

Amber Nichole Mensing, 32, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of hindering prosecution, tampering with physical evidence, attempt to elude by vehicle and reckless driving.

The investigation began at 8:44 p.m. Tuesday when police responded to Southeast 148th Avenue and Division Street and found a man suffering from traumatic injuries.

Investigators said 21-year-old Dominique Hadley Mann of Portland was crossing 148th Avenue when he was hit by a 2008 Infiniti G37.

The driver left the scene after hitting Mann, according to police, but returned and attempted to provide aid to the victim. However, before officers arrived, the suspect again took off.

Investigators said Mensing then arrived at the scene and drove away in his car. Mensing led officers on a short chase that ended when she crashed at Southeast 150th Avenue and Main Street, according to police.

Detectives said the driver has not yet been positively identified and no other arrests have been made. The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his early 40s.

Mann remained in the hospital Wednesday in serious condition.
