OSP K-9 retires after 10 years; career included seizure of 33,000 grams of meth

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

An Oregon State Police K-9 is retiring after a 10-year career that included the seizure of nearly 33,000 grams of methamphetamine.

Hemi, an OSP drug detection K-9, called it a career on Sept. 1.

Hemi started with the agency in 2006. His career included the seizure of $1.5 million in cash, nearly 100,000 grams of marijuana, 32,885 grams of meth, 2,313 grams of cocaine and 1,587 grams of heroin.

Hemi will spend his retired years with his handler, Sgt. Core.

"We wish Hemi a comfortable and healthy life in retirement," according to an OSP statement.
