A family from the Parkrose neighborhood says their kid-size train that they loan out for charity and church events was stolen from the parking lot of the Faithful Savior church Saturday afternoon.

Gretchen Ganard, the owner of the locomotive, said she and her husband loaned the train to the church for the afternoon. Later in the day, Ganard said her husband drove by and noticed it was no longer chained up in the parking lot.

"I never once thought about somebody stealing it. I guess I thought it would stick out like a sore thumb, so why would anybody steal it?" Gretchen said.

Ganard said she purchased the trailer for her husband about three years ago from someone who was trying to get rid of both the trailer and the train.

"They approached me at one point in time and said 'hey do you want to buy a utility trailer for your husband? I said well I guess so. Is it a good deal?"

Since then, the family has used the train to unite the community and get neighborhood kids to interact with each other. Ganard said her husband would take kids, including their own, out for rides.

According to Ganard, the Parkrose community knows they use the train for good work and hope they could help get it back.

"It's always been something that we just felt like we would never take money for its kind of serendipitous that we got it so we try and spread a little whimsy and joy in the neighborhood."

While her children are missing a part of their childhood, Ganard said it is even more sad that the neighborhood she and her family have grown to love has changed.

"Our neighborhood has gotten to the point where we're having more and more crime, I wish there was something more I could do about it."
