FOREST GROVE, OR (KPTV) -

Two people were seriously injured in a crash on Highway 47 in Forest Grove on Friday morning.

Crews responded to the crash at Southwest Fern Hill Road just after 6 a.m. Firefighters said two cars were involved in a serious T-bone crash.

Investigators said the 28-year-old driver of a Honda Civic attempted to cross Highway 47 from Maple Street onto Fernhill Road and hit a Toyota Tacoma driving south on the highway.

The driver of the Honda suffered injuries described as life-threatening. A passenger in the car also sustained serious injuries.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene, but was grounded shortly after takeoff due to weather. Both people in the Honda were taken to the hospital via ambulance.

The driver of the pickup was not injured.

A spokesman from Forest Grove Fire & Rescue said the scene of the crash is known to have frequent traffic and accidents. Many drivers use Fern Hill Road as a shortcut.

Highway 47 was closed in the area until 8:30 a.m. A Forest Grove school bus barn is located off of Fern Hill Road and many morning school buses were delayed due to the crash and subsequent investigation.
