A gas leak shut down Philomath High School on Friday.
A staff member first detected the smell of gas at 7 a.m. The fire department was immediately called out and the gas line to the school was shut off.
Students were kept on school buses while administrators determined the next steps.
Classes were ultimately canceled for the day.
Parents were notified that students could be picked up at Philomath Middle School. Students who were taken to school by bus were returned home on the bus.
All high school athletics and activities were canceled for Friday.
The Philomath Youth Activities Club carnival will continue as planned.
The source of the gas leak has been identified and resolved, according to the school district. No other details were released.
