PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A high school student in Portland runs her very own pageant that's about more than gowns and tiaras.

Madeline Monlux, a junior at Franklin High School, has been competing in pageants since she was 7 years old.

Three years ago, Monlux created a fundraising pageant called 'Queen of the Jungle.'

All of the money raised from the event goes to Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, which aims to protect African gorillas and their habitats.

In three years, Monlux's pageant has raised $20,000.

The organization has since reached out the Monlux and made her a youth ambassador.

"They're really proud and think it's really cool that someone this young is raising so much money and interested in mountain gorillas."

Earlier this year, Monlux was crowned National All American Miss. She also recently won the Miss Oregon Junior Teen pageant.
