Three men were arrested by Portland police Friday during protests downtown where hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets rallying against prison labor.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, the demonstrations caused significant traffic issues downtown, and protesters intimidated and threatened people and threw projectiles at police and vehicles.

PPB officers used pepper spray at one point during the protests, due to what they described as “the unruly nature of the crowd.”

Of the three men arrested, one, 27-year-old James Matthew Mattox, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail. He faces charges of criminal mischief, interfering with a peace officer and harassment.

The two other men were issued citations to appear in court, with both men facing charges of disorderly conduct and interfering with a peace officer while one also faces a charge of resisting arrest.

Police are still reviewing photos and videos of the protests to identify other suspects, and other arrests may still be made.
