CORVALLIS, OR (KPTV) -

A drunken driver drove onto a sidewalk near Corvallis, slammed into a telephone pole, hit a tree and traveled 600 feet in a ditch before rolling his car and seriously injuring a passenger, according to deputies.

Emergency crews responded to Highway 20 near Conifer Boulevard at 9:17 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators said Carmine Silva, 34, of Albany, was heading east on the highway in a 2012 Honda Civic when he struck the sidewalk near Pilkington Avenue.

The car then sheared a telephone pole and hit three culverts before landing on its roof in the eastbound lane of Highway 20.

Christina Pecora, 35, was thrown from the car and taken to the hospital with injuries described as serious. An update on her condition was not released Monday.

Investigators said speeding and alcohol were factors in the crash.

Silva was arrested on charges of DUII, reckless driving, reckless endangering, second-degree assault and second-degree criminal mischief.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Detective Sgt. David Peterson at 541-766-6820.

The road was closed for about four hours after the crash.
