A Sherwood man is being charged with manslaughter for a crash that killed a 2-year-old girl in Deschutes County, according to police.

Emergency crews responded to Highway 20 west of Tumalo at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators said David William Fincher, 45, of Sherwood, was driving a 2000 Toyota Tacoma east on the highway when he lost control negotiating a corner and crossed into oncoming traffic.

The truck collided with two westbound vehicles, a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta and a 2016 Dodge Charger.

Sarah Peterson, 37, of Bend, was driving the Volkswagen with a 2-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy in the car.

Police said the girl suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Peterson and the boy were taken to the hospital for treatment, along with the 28-year-old driver of the Dodge Charger and a 27-year-old woman in his car.

An update on their conditions was not immediately available.

Fincher was arrested and booked into the Deschutes County Jail on the charge of second-degree manslaughter. Police said additional charges are pending.

No other details were released about the investigation.

Oregon State Police troopers are seeking witnesses or anyone with additional information about this crash.

It is believed Fincher nearly hit a bicyclist moments before the crash, according to police.

Anyone who knows the identity of the bicyclist or has any other information is asked to contact Senior Trooper Jason Hanson at 541-388-6213 or the Oregon State Police Northern Command Center at 503-375-3555 and reference OSP case #SP16308856.
