PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police are asking for the public's help locating a hit-and-run driver involved in a deadly collision in north Portland.

Emergency crews responded to North Greeley Avenue and Bryant Street at 8:40 p.m. Aug. 30.

Stanley Henry Grochowski, 65, was found suffering from serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital and died as a result of his injuries Friday.

Investigators said Grochowski was crossing Greeley Avenue westbound in a crosswalk when he was hit by a dark-colored, smaller SUV that was heading south.

Police said the driver stopped momentarily, but then sped away from the scene.

Witness video shows several people surrounded Grochowski, trying to help before medical crews arrived.

“When I first got there he was not moving,” witness Charles Freeman said. “You can see his bike and his shopping cart was demolished and scattered around the street.”

Grochowski’s nephew, David Grochowski said his uncle was homeless.

“He was a good person,” David said. “He had a rough life, you know.” David adds Stanley was equal to everyone else and didn’t deserve to be left on the street.

Investigators believe the vehicle is a 2008 to 2012 Toyota Rav4 with a silver trim. Detectives released a photo of a similar car, as well as a 2011 photo of Grochowski, on Monday in an effort to generate tips in the case.

Crime Stoppers of Oregon is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case and tipsters can remain anonymous.

Grochowski's death marked the 32nd traffic facility in the city of Portland in 2016.
