PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

UPS announced Wednesday that it plans to hire more than 1,152 workers at its facilities in the Portland area heading into the busy holiday shipping season.

The new hires are part of a push to add 95,000 workers at UPS locations nationwide.

The company said the new hires would be a mix of seasonal and permanent jobs and offered the following breakdown of the number of positions available:

  • Tractor-trailer driver: 48
  • Package car driver: 77
  • Package handler: 564
  • Driver-helper: 448
  • Part-time Supervisors: 15

Pay for part-time supervisors starts at $15.60 per hour, package car drivers make a starting wage of $18.75 per hour and tractor-trailer drivers start at $25 per hour.

Seasonal work at UPS can often lead to a full-time position with the company. UPS said 37 percent of part-time and seasonal workers from the 2012 through 2014 holiday seasons stayed with the company on a permanent basis.

Applications are available online at www.upsjobs.com.

Other major companies, including Target and Amazon, have also announced plans to hire tens of thousands of seasonal workers nationwide.
