PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A 33-year-old motorcyclist was critically injured in a crash in southeast Portland.

Emergency crews responded to Southeast Deardorff Road near Flavel Street at 5:03 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said 33-year-old John William McArthur of Portland was riding his motorcycle north on Deardorff Road at a high rate of speed when he crossed the centerline and crashed into an oncoming 2005 Toyota Avalon.

McArthur remained in the hospital Wednesday with injuries described as life-threatening.

The 29-year-old driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police said it is not believed that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

No citations has been issued and the crash remains under investigation.
