PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A young polar bear that captured attention nationwide when she was born at the Columbus Zoo but abandoned by her mother has arrived at her new home in Portland.

Nora arrived at the Oregon Zoo Wednesday night along with zookeepers who helped her with the move.

Zoo staff said the 10-month-old polar bear is adjusting to the time change but is otherwise doing well.

“She’s a bit jet-lagged, but she ate a big breakfast this morning, went for several swims, played in a big pile of ice and enjoyed some epic back-scratching sessions," said Amy Cutting, who oversees the Oregon Zoo's marine animal area.

Zookeepers in Columbus began hand-rearing Nora in November when her mother began leaving her unattended for long periods of time.

At the time, Nora weighed just one pound but she has quickly grown to weigh more than 150 pounds.

Two members of the Oregon Zoo's staff went to Columbus to begin working with her and the Columbus staff accompanied Nora to Portland to make the move as easy as possible.

One member of the Columbus Zoo staff will remain in Portland for a week to offer continued assistance with the transition.

Staff hope the Oregon Zoo's other polar bear, 31-year-old Tasul, will also help Nora adjust and serve as a mentor to the young polar bear.

Tasul herself will likely appreciate the company, having just lost her brother, Conrad, earlier this summer.

Nora will be available for public viewing in mid-October following the standard 30-day quarantine period.
