PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A driver who hit and killed a bicyclist in northeast Portland pleaded guilty to charges including second-degree manslaughter and DUII.

Martin Lee Greenough, 38, was hit on Northeast Lombard Street near 42nd Avenue in December 2015.

Investigators said the car hit Greenough from behind and kept driving. Greenough had a rear flashing light on his bike and was wearing a helmet, according to police.

Kenneth Britt Smith Jr. was taken into custody when his 2000 Ford Crown Victoria was later found at Northeast 97th and Killingsworth Street.

Investigators determined Smith was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the collision.

He pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of DUII, second-degree manslaughter and hit and run. Additional charges including first-degree manslaughter and reckless driving were dismissed.

During his initial court appearance last December, family members described Smith as a loving father who would never intentionally hurt someone.

Smith is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 29
