Mountain Wave Search and Rescue unveils new vehicle donated by local firefighters

Posted: Updated:

A volunteer search and rescue group now has a new tool to help them find people missing in the wilderness, and it's all thanks to local firefighters.

The new vehicle is the latest addition to the Mountain Wave Search and Rescue team, and it's no stranger to rescue work because it's a former fire truck.

Mountain Wave volunteers unveiled their new Com 8 truck in West Linn on Thursday.

The vehicle was donated by Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.

Mountain Wave helps to coordinate communication in remote areas when rescuers are searching for missing hikers and climbers.

So far this year, Mountain Wave has participated in 145 search missions.

The new truck has top notch communication capabilities, a FLIR camera, and a full weather station, and it means the group now has three vehicles.

"It gives us the capabilities, not only having state of the art communications equipment, but it also gives us another rig so that we can be on multiple missions at the same time," said Russ Buebele, with Mountain Wave Search and Rescue.

Com 8 will be fully operational and ready to go into the field in just about two weeks.
